Message from Tom Harris, PAC Chairman
February 25, 2008
Dear Parents,
Greetings and God Bless to All. Can you believe we’re well into the second half of the school year? It’s been a good first half for my son, Ben as he has adjusted well to the curriculum and a smaller group of classmates.
This year has also been a good adjustment for me in becoming more involved in the workings of the school. I must say I expected to keep the volunteering requirement aspect at arms length for as long as possible, but needs just kept showing up in front of me to which I found myself responding “Oh, alright, I can do that”, or raising my hand right up through all my premeditated excuses.
Putting in Volunteer Hours is something each and every one of us as parents of MCA- that have chosen to volunteer instead of pay extra- committed to in September. Not only is the volunteer work to be done our responsibility, it’s also a need … AND … it’s an opportunity. And I do believe that opportunity has risen as the tallest of the three for me.
It started with pushing my hand up to volunteer to be part of PAC. The result has been an opportunity to work with 6 other very special folks. Another day I had a chance to substitute teach my sons class, I now know his classmates by face and name. And last Saturday pull up some rather old belligerent carpet so as to make way for the new.
A detailed list of Volunteering Opportunities will be emailed to all parents within the next few days, and everything on the list is a “must do”. In all reality MCA’s success rest on the shoulders of each and every one of us. That’s how it has been set up, and I believe God is right in the middle pulling for us to succeed.
God’s Best to You,
Tom Harris (PAC Chairman)

Grand Canyon and Yosemite Slide Show Saturday Night
Hi Church and School Family,
I would like to invite you to the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Parks Slide Show Presentation at 7 PM at MCA /LWCC Saturday March 1.
We are making plans for anyone interested in a backpacking trip to Yosemite from August 15 through 23. The plan is to do Half Dome and Hetch Hetchy. These can be easily accessed at http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/maps.htm. This is not a real hard hike and if you are insecure about the adventure come and find out what it is all about. Yosemite is a glimpse of heaven on earth.

MCA Enrollment Markers
Dear School Family,
MCA School Board has set marker dates to manage the enrollment process for the upcoming year. These were announced at the parent teacher meeting on Jan 28th.
Jan 28th Announce new tuition and school program for 2008-09 school year
Feb. 29th 80 % re enrollment for present school families. Open enrollment begins
March 31st re enrollment fee increases to $150
April 25th Goal of 50 students enrolled
May 6 th School Board meeting to assess enrollment goals are met and confirm
teacher contacts for next year
.
MCA plans to have a substantial increase in students for next year. 60 students is our minimum. We are in the process of looking for two new teachers for next year, one math and science for high school and one elementary.
What is our enrollment strategy? We have plans to advertise in local venues and churches. This is normal for all schools, but MCA gets most of its enrollment from referrals from families already enrolled in MCA. In other words, if the past is any indicator, regardless of how much effort MCA administration puts into the enrollment process it is current families that provide over 80% of the enrollment increase. We need your participation in this area.
We also remind you that the first re enrollment date is this Friday. This will encourage us greatly.
Thanks,
Paul Sontag

The Latest in Girls Basketball!
The girls basketball team played a great first half against St. Maries but couldn't keep up in the second half. The Lady Eagles lost 15 to 30 something (I don't have the actual final score, sorry it wasn't written down). Sheila Peterson and Liz Beaulieu let the way for the with four points each, followed by Lisa Beaulieu with three and Becca Peterson and Saisha Durham each with two points. The girls finished off their regular season and look forward to the tournament, which will be held in March. Coach Peterson will pass on the information when she receives it.
Overall, this was an exciting season. The girls practiced hard and everyone improved their playing skills. What impressed Coach Peterson the most was the team spirit! The girls were all very positive with each other and supported each other. Sometimes I think they had too much fun, especially at practice. But the highlight of the season, by far,was coming in Second Place in the Kingdom Covenant Tournament! Hopefully I'll have the same team back next year and we can shoot for first place!

Important Volunteer Workdays and Hours
Dear Parents,
We have new carpeting being installed in the lunch room and sanctuary Tuesday Feb. 26. Thanks the Lord for the finances to make these much needed upgrades. This will take three days. We need those rooms stipped of furinutre and the old rugs by Tuesday AM. We have school through Friday and Church on Sunday. This leaves a small windaw of work time on Saturday, Sunday PM and Monday, ( but that is a workday for most adults). We then need furniture put back in place for church and school by the next weekend. The following is the schedule of work being coordianted by Susie Breuckner. We need definite sign ups for these jobs. milfordchristianacdemy@comcast.net Please sign up ASAP so we can make sure we have adaquate help. Light of the World Christian Church that underwrites the builiding would greatly appreciate the MCA support.
Come serve as a family!
For parents that have need of volunteer hours this is the perfect opportunity to meet real dollar needs and get credit for a block of hours. Students can recieve Community Service Hours.
11/12 need 30 hours, 9/10 need 20 hours, 7/8 need 15 hours per year .
Paul Sontag

There are, additionally, other items on the list, such as washing windows, cleaning wood trim, replacing stained ceiling tiles and broken lights, and repositioning a few ceiling lights,
if time and hands allow.
Many hands make light work.
