Soccer Update!
The MCA Eagles ran into a tough RSEC Academy team but came out on top. The Eagles got on the score board first with a goal by Saisha Durham. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie. The second half was controlled by MCA and they had three more goals. Saisha scored her second goal of the game, followed by Jay Reichl and Ben Bickmore. The MCA Eagles had a full team effort in this game and everyone played good. Jesse Durham and Kirsten Weber played a great game off the bench, Ryan Bourgeois had a great game in goal and Nate Swayne and Sheila Peterson had a good game on defense. The Eagles are away on Wednesday and will be playing against an always tough Jesse Remington team.
The following week, November 4th and 6th, the Eagles are hosting the soccer tournament. Games will be on Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 3:00. The first place team will be playing the fourth place team and the second place team will be playing third place team on Tuesday. Thursday's games will have the winners playing for the championship and the two losing teams playing for third and fourth place. Team assignments will be announced on Friday.
All Clear!

Lice Recommendations from the School Nurse
I called the Milford School District and this is what they follow per public health:
-Children with live lice are sent home to begin treatment.
-Children with nits are allowed back to school.
-Parents are encouraged to check and remove nits twice a day for
several weeks.
The American Academy of Pediatrics
-Recommends shampooing with Nix and repeating in 7-10 days.
-Discourages “No Nit” policies (keeping children with nits out of
school).
Another school of thought
-Discourages the use of chemical shampoos due to chemical usage and
resistance of lice to these shampoos and encourages use of frequent
and thorough combing to remove lice. Debate is ongoing requiring the
use of fine toothed comb vs. electronic combs
Lice can live for 30 days and adult lice can lay 8-10 nits a day. Nits take 7 days to hatch and another 7 days to mature to adulthood.
Nits firmly attached within a ¼ inch of the scalp are viable nits. Ones that are further along the hair shaft are dead or empty. Nits and lice are only viable if kept warm by the human body; they will die away from the head.
Recommendations of the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)
www.cdc.gov/lice/head/treatment.html
- Treat with lice shampoo
- Comb with a nit comb (fine toothed comb) and repeat every 2-3 days for
the next 2-3 weeks.
- Repeat shampoo in 7-10 days.
- Machine wash all washable clothing and bed linens in hot water and dry
in high heat.
- Wash all brushes and combs in soap and hot water (130 degrees).
- Vacuum floor and furniture the infected person usually sits or lies down
on. “The risk of being reinfested from a louse that has fallen onto a
carpet or sofa is very small; don’t spend a lot of time on this”
(cdc.gov)
Prevention
- Avoid head-to-head contact.
- Do not share hats, scarves, coats, uniforms or hair ribbons.
- Do not share combs, brushes, or towels.

Soccer News!
A "Lousy" Situation
We are emphatically recommending that parents do daily lice checks at home on their children. You may want to visit one of the following websites for more information: http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/common/lice.html and http://lancaster.unl.edu/pest/lice/headlice018.shtml . One of these sites recommends a Robi Comb should you find that your child does have lice. Several of our parents have found this to be an invaluable tool to aid in getting rid of the lice once discovered. It does not remove the nits (eggs) but it does kill and remove any live lice that may be in the hair.
If your child should have lice, please do not return your child to school until you have used a medicated lice shampoo on him or her and have also followed the proper combing procedures for removing nits. Thank you.
Grades are posted for Grades 7-12
Thanks,

ELEMENTARY CHRISTMAS PLAY!!
Each child will be coming home tonight (Wed. Oct 15th) with a CD labeled "Christmas Play '08". This is a copy of all the songs in the play. Please have your child practice singing to the CD. I would like to have the first two songs down by next Wednesday.
For the kids that have solos, I have marked the track number on the CD so they know which song has their solo part. Please encourage your kids to practice, practice, practice! We don't have that many rehearsals.
Jennifer Lowton has offered to make the T-Shirts. I will be picking up the T-Shirts soon. Remember to put about $10 - $15 aside to cover the cost. It may not even be that much, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I'll be getting sizes from the kids today during rehearsal.
If anyone has a call for set design, that would be welcomed as well.
Thanks again for all your support!!
In Christ,
Mrs. Lehoux

PSATs Are Coming Up FAST!
PSAT testing day is next Wednesday, October 15th, starting at 8:00 AM. The fee for this test is $15 per full-time day school student and $30 per home school / part-time student to cover the cost of scoring and is due by Tuesday, October 14th in the form of cash or check. Please make checks payable to MCA. Any 9-12 students not participating in the testing should arrive at school at Noon as classes will be held in the afternoon.
Cookie Dough Fundraiser
The cookie fundraiser is underway. I'm sorry for the delay.
Our goal is for each student to sell ten boxes. Please do not feel pressured to do so, however. There are always kids who sell more, so it all balances out. If you will do your part, God will do the rest. We are looking to raise at least $1500 to go towards the computer lab upgrading. If you remember, Mr. Dell graciously offered to match up to $2000 for this worthy cause. Someone donated $500, so all we need to do is raise the rest of it. Thank you Mr. Dell.
Be sure to collect the money at the time of the sale. So when someone orders a box of cookies, they need to pay you right away. Be sure to tell them to make any checks out to Milford Christian Academy.
Please note: The due date on your flyer says October 10th.
Please note that date has changed to Friday, October 24th.
Bring in to school all the money you collected along with your tally sheet. If you need another sheet, ask me, I have a few extras.
Also: The flyer that you received says we are raising money for "educational materials and playground equipment" The computer lab falls under the educational materials. I'm not sure why it says playground equipment, so just ignore that or you can cross it off.
I think that's it. Remember, when we do our part, God is right there to do His.
Happy Selling! New computer lab, here we come!!!!

There are also a few other parts that have a line here or there that I will be filling as I go. Please help your child over the weekend to start memorizing his or her lines. This is most important as we will spend most of the next few practices learning the songs. I am planning on burning a CD of the solo songs for each person who is singing so they can practice at home.
Please remember that I am anticipating a cost of $5 - $15 for costumes. If anyone knows of anyone who can make T-Shirts for us at a minimal cost, please let me know. I would like to keep the cost down for you as much as I can.
Thank you again for this opportunity to work with your children to put on this production. I know you will be blessed.

Elementary Play Info From Mrs. Lehoux
Well, I hope your children came home excited today after getting a taste of the play we will be performing for you in December. I have asked the students who wish to try out for a singing part to practice a favorite song without music. They will have an opportunity to sing for me and their peers on Monday. I hope to have all the parts cast by next Wednesday. There are quite a few speaking parts as well. Most of the speaking parts I will be giving to the older elementary as they have a greater ability to memorize. If you, as a parent, feel that a part in a play would be too much with the homework load, then please e-mail me before Monday. All the students will be participating. If they are not speaking, they will be part of the choir.
I will also be in need of someone to help with costumes. They will all need to have matching T-shirts with a specially made logo. I'm anticipating a cost of $10-$15 per student. If anyone knows of anyone who makes T-shirts that you think may want to discount or donate to a great cause, please let me know. Or, if you want to donate your ink, printer and an ironing board (I have an iron) we can make them ourselves.
If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me at petraforce@aol.com.
Thanks so much and God Bless you!
