Attention Secondary Students

The Milford Rec Dept. is having their annual Easter Egg Hunt and is looking for some teen volunteers to help out! This is a fun way to get some Community Services hours and they really need some help! Anyone interested please contact Mrs. Peterson ASAP so she can notify Mrs. Banks of the Rec. Dept. The event will be held on Saturday April 11th, at Keyes Field. They need volunteers to hide eggs, as well as help during the egg hunt and with games. Egg hiding is from 8:30 to 10:30 and the rest of the festivities are from 11:00 to 1:00. This is a fun way to earn five community service hours!!!

Open House Tomorrow

Please come to MCA's open house tomorrow night, March 26th, from 7 PM to 9 PM. This is a good chance for any prospective families to come get a flavor of MCA. It's also a great time for our current families to support their kids and come see what they've been working so hard at (PBL, etc.). Hope to see you there!

Open Letter to MCA Family

March 23, 2009
Dear School Families:

God is good, all the time!! As many of you know, we start each day with this declaration. One of our 9th grade students gives an enthusiastic shout which cannot be ignored. Regardless of how often I hear it there is a strong responsive “Amen” that rises from my heart and soul. It is truly a great way to start the day. I hope this tradition never fades from the MCA plan book.

Every school has their traditions, the things they really value. They are generally found in the mission statement, a slogan, or the school handbook. For MCA one of those core values is relationship, but a special kind of relationship. Of course God is to be our number one relationship but He always sends us back to our human relationships to test whether the first relationship is genuine. We define the nature of the relationships we want to cultivate by the acronym PDE, Parent Directed Education. In 2007 we restructured MCA to be more financially solid, but there was a significant philosophical change as well. We designed the “new” MCA to be built with strong parent participation. Thus, we see the Parent Advisory Committee is taking on more responsibility and is now actively integrated with the School Board and Administration.

What does this mean to the average school family if there is anything average in the kingdom of God? Just like the Body of Christ needs all parts to function to be healthy, so does the MCA school family. We rejoice together and we share our difficulties together. (Rom. 12:15) This means more than doing our POVH hours and participating in fundraisers which most families do faithfully. It means our attitudes reflect one of commitment to the shared goals and mission of the school.

We are a radically different school, not because of Project Based Learning or a different style of teaching in the upper school, but because we decided to build with parents at the core of the education or discipleship process.

When you share MCA with other prospective families, this is the core message we hope is a growing reality at MCA. It is not built in a day and it takes all of us to bring it to completion. The economic recession is not a problem for God. Let’s keep believing and praying and inviting families to become part of what God is building at MCA. Remember our Open House Thursday evening March 26th at 7pm, and bring a prospective family!

Thank you.
Serving Him Joyfully,

Paul Sontag

Girls BB Team Places 2nd in Tournament!!

The MCA Lady Eagles competed in a one day tournament Friday, 3/13 and finished the night in Second Place. Due to one team dropping out, the girls played four sixteen minute games in the span of about three hours, then had a thirty minute championship game after that. I'm sure they will spend the whole weekend in bed!

The Lady Eagles had a record of 2-2 going into the championship game and just could not keep up with tournament winner Saint Maries, losing 26 to 38. Rachelle Guertin lead the Lady Eagles in scoring with 15, followed by Sheila Peterson 14, Lisa Beaulieu 13, Liz Beaulieu 10, Saisha Durham 8, Becca Peterson 4, Kirsten Weber and Michaella Reichl both with 2. Kaitlyn Hartling had her best games of the season but just couldn't get one to drop in. She had three nice shots in one game. Everyone played great and really fought hard for every point.

This was our last games of the season and this was, by far, our best season ever! The girls placed Second in two tournaments and even had their first regular season victory in three years, beating Holy Family on January 10th, 26-15! Becca Peterson had the hot hand for the Lady Eagles this season, leading the team in scoring with 44 points, followed by Saisha Durham 38, Liz Beaulieu 28, Sheila Peterson and Rachelle Guertin 25, Lisa Beaulieu 20, Kirsten Weber 13, Rachel Bourgeois and Michaela Reichl 4.

Liz Beaulieu and Sheila Peterson both were on the injured reserved list for a few weeks and missed some big games, but fortunately both were able to play in the final tournament.

I really enjoyed coaching the girls, this may not be the most talented team but they are a great group of girls who work hard together, play hard together and have a lot of fun throughout the season. Unfortunately we do have one senior on the team and we have to say goodbye to Sheila Peterson. Sheila is a big contributor under the boards battling for rebounds and trying to stay ahead of Liz Beaulieu with fouls! Sheila hit a couple three pointers this season, which really boosted her shooting confidence. She will be missed next season.

Elementary Footwear Notice

Once winter boot season has ended, the elementary students will still need to have shoes to wear inside as well as shoes to wear outside. This is a big help in keeping the floors and rugs clean. Inside shoes shouldn't be PE shoes as PE class is usually outside.

Thank you for supporting the elementary library fundraiser! We were able to spend $215.00 on new books for the library.
