The MCA Lady Eagles competed in a one day tournament Friday, 3/13 and finished the night in Second Place. Due to one team dropping out, the girls played four sixteen minute games in the span of about three hours, then had a thirty minute championship game after that. I'm sure they will spend the whole weekend in bed!
The Lady Eagles had a record of 2-2 going into the championship game and just could not keep up with tournament winner Saint Maries, losing 26 to 38. Rachelle Guertin lead the Lady Eagles in scoring with 15, followed by Sheila Peterson 14, Lisa Beaulieu 13, Liz Beaulieu 10, Saisha Durham 8, Becca Peterson 4, Kirsten Weber and Michaella Reichl both with 2. Kaitlyn Hartling had her best games of the season but just couldn't get one to drop in. She had three nice shots in one game. Everyone played great and really fought hard for every point.
This was our last games of the season and this was, by far, our best season ever! The girls placed Second in two tournaments and even had their first regular season victory in three years, beating Holy Family on January 10th, 26-15! Becca Peterson had the hot hand for the Lady Eagles this season, leading the team in scoring with 44 points, followed by Saisha Durham 38, Liz Beaulieu 28, Sheila Peterson and Rachelle Guertin 25, Lisa Beaulieu 20, Kirsten Weber 13, Rachel Bourgeois and Michaela Reichl 4.
Liz Beaulieu and Sheila Peterson both were on the injured reserved list for a few weeks and missed some big games, but fortunately both were able to play in the final tournament.
I really enjoyed coaching the girls, this may not be the most talented team but they are a great group of girls who work hard together, play hard together and have a lot of fun throughout the season. Unfortunately we do have one senior on the team and we have to say goodbye to Sheila Peterson. Sheila is a big contributor under the boards battling for rebounds and trying to stay ahead of Liz Beaulieu with fouls! Sheila hit a couple three pointers this season, which really boosted her shooting confidence. She will be missed next season.
