Dear Parents of Upper School MCA Students-

I just wanted to let you know that the community service efforts on Friday Oct 30th will spill over into the Mont Vernon and Amherst area towns. I realize that the general permission form gives permission for the Milford “area”. I am assuming that these two additional towns are being covered by the permission form. I will not be doing additional permission forms as I am not exactly sure who is going where at the moment. I would just ask that if any parent has an issue with their child traveling with a teacher to either the Mont Vernon area or the Amherst area, to let me know.

Also, each student should bring a pair of work gloves and a rake. They are allowed to wear jeans or clothes they will be comfortable working in. They should also bring plenty of water and a bag lunch that DOES NOT require a microwave.
The juniors and seniors MUST bring gloves, eye protection, a mask, a hat, and a hammer. If they have a crowbar available, that would be appreciated as well!

We are looking forward to a day of serving those in need in our community. Praise God that we have the opportunity to shine for Him!

Blessings
Mrs. Lockwood

Soccer News

The MCA Lions squared off against a tough Holy Family team this afternoon, in the first round of the playoffs. MCA got on the score board first with a nice goal by Paul Coblentz, set up by Micah Edelblut, but Holy Family answered by back with a goal of their own. The first half ended with a one - one tie. Both teams came out fired up for the second half and it was a tough fought game at both ends of the field. Holy Family scored two more goals before Paul Coblentz headed in his second score of the game. MCA had the chances, but the rest of their shots when wide or too high. The final score was Holy Family 3 and MCA 2. Jung Yeol had a good goal in net for the Lions, Micah Edelblut and Ryan Bourgeois controlled the middle of the field, and Luke Maillet and Colin Lockwood had a good game on defense.

The Lions next take on Mount Royal Academy on Thursday for third or fourth place. Game time is 3:30, come down to the MCAA Sports Complex and cheer for your Lions!

Letter from Mr. Sontag

Dear MCA Family,

It is with great pleasure that I take a moment to thank you for all the great moments that the Lord has given me over the years at MCA, though not always called MCA. The most recent of these moments was participating in the playground project. Personally it was a great day of fellowship, especially with so many men, and working in the presence of God and His provision.

Presently, as most of you know, I am the new, yet older, pastor of Light of the World Church. I regard this as a great privilege and honor. But Christian education has far from fled from my thoughts and I hope it never does. In fact, the reason I am writing you is to invite you into a way in which I believe we can develop MCA into more of what God intends. I have also shared this with the School Board and they are excited to see how this approach evolves into a God honoring way to grow the school.

It is really very simple and uncomplicated. We, as parents, believe we are participating in God’s work by sending our children to Christian school. This is a conviction that God has planted deep in our hearts. If this were not so, why are we investing so much of our time and money? We are making a mission statement of what is valuable in our lives. My suggestion and approach is to be more intentional in stating what our joint mission with God is all about: “Go and make disciples”.

We, the MCA staff, PAC, and School Board, have adopted a mindset of promoting our mission in every program and activity that we present. We will intentionally invite “potential partners” to “come and see that the Lord is good” and that He is doing good things at MCA. In other words, we are going to “showcase” MCA by putting our best foot forward in the name of the Lord.

An example of this is the PBL night that is scheduled for Thursday, October 29th. We are asking parents and students to invite people (grandparents, neighbors, friends, etc.) to this event with the thought that at some time they might become partners in the ministry and support MCA, not only prayerfully but financially, if God moves on their heart to do so. I believe we have done this in the past but we have been remiss by not intentionally sharing our mission, God’s mission, at MCA. This is not going to be a hard sell, but simply being intentional and honest about why we are doing what we are doing.

We invite you into this mindset. My wife, Joan, and I have a clear testimony of what God has done for us and the blessing it has been for our three children to have attended MCA.

Serving Christ,

Paul Sontag, Headmaster

More Soccer!

The MCA Lions played their last regular season game today, traveling to Candia to take on undefeated Holy Family. Holy Family got on the score board first. Paul Coblentz tied the game on a nice shot, assisted by Saisha Durham. The first half ended with a teams tied at 1 a piece. The second half was a tough battle, going up and down the field until late in the game, Saisha Durham headed a deflected shot from Paul Coblentz into the corner of the net. The Lions held off the Holy Family offensive attack and won the game by a score of 2-1. Jung Yeol had a good game in goal for the Lions. Luke Maillet and Kirsten Weber played tough on defense and Ryan Bourgeois and Micah Edelblut controlled the middle of the field.

The MCA Lions will be playing in the tournament next week at the MCAA Sports Complex on Monday, game time is 3:30. MCA will not know who they are playing until the season ends on Saturday for the rest of the league. Read all about it!

Half Day, Wed Oct 28th.  Please plan to start afternoon carpool at noon.

PBL Night has been reschedule for Thursday October 29th.  It will be held at the school and will begin at 6:30pm.  There will be presentations in the sanctuary as well as "history fair" type presentations in A5.  Please come and see what all the students have been working so hard to accomplish!

Calling all mentors.... please be sure to write up a one page summary regarding the PBL project.  The biggest questions that we look for you to answer have to do with your relationship with the student over the course of the project, how commited the student was, how easily they adapted to change, how well they planned, how they learned, how they were challenged and how they grew!  If you could send that letter in with your student before Friday, Oct 23rd, that would be great!  Thank you for your help.

Delayed Opening
Friday, October 30th, following the PBL night, MCA will start school one hour later than usual.  Therefore, morning worship will begin at 8:50am.  We will also be having a school wide pancake breakfast.  We would ask that each student contribute $1 to the purchase of the batter, syrup and accompanying utensils needed.

Community Service Day-
Friday, October 30th, following the pancake breakfast, the upper school will be going out into the community!  We have families in need of fall clean-up, in the Milford area.  Students will return to the school in time for afternoon carpool.  Please bring any rakes you may have available and work gloves!  Students will be given community service hours for this time.  Remember, each student must submit a one page summary of a community service effort they completed this quarter.  The paper is due, to your Bible teacher, no later than Wed. Nov 4th.  Your paper may be on the fall clean-up day, or another effort that you were a part of this quarter.

Christmas Program at MCA-
As many of you know, MCA has traditionally done an elementary Christmas play.  Our elementary students are wonderful!!  Mrs LeHoux has generously given us her time in the preparation and presentation of these events over the past few years.  Unfortunately, she will not be able to make that commitment this year.  So, I am asking any parent/family member that has a heart for working with young children and who may have an idea for a Christmas program to consider presenting their ideas.  It could be as grand as a play or as simple as Christmas carols.  We are open to what the Lord has planned.  So, if that is something that strikes your heart, then just give us a call at school!

Thank you for allowing us to spend each school day with your children!
Blessings

Soccer News!

The MCA Lions went on a long road trip to take on TriCity Christian Academy, only to find out that their ref would not be making it to the game. The Lions were rewarded with a 1-0 forfeit and used the scrimmage to get ready for their rematch with the undefeated team of Holy Family. The Lions travel to Candia on Wednesday. This will be our last regular season game and the team is hoping to even up their series with Holy Family.

MCA will be hosting the soccer tournament again this year. The first round of the tournament will be on Monday, October 26th and the second round will be on Thursday, October 29th. Friday will be used in case of a rain cancellation. Game time is 3:30, come down to the MCAA Sports Complex and cheer the Lions on to victory!

A successful Work Party!!

Praise God!  He is good all the time!

It was such a blessing to be a part of the work party for the playground on Saturday October 17th!
It was wonderful to see school and church families come together to support a shared vision.  The fellowship was wonderful, the willing hearts were a blessing, the food was terrific and the spirits were high!
We were originally very concerned about the weather forcast and we were so close to posponing this event.  BUT, God is good and he blew that snow storm out one more day.  The wind was cool and brisk but the sun was bright and warm!  Praise the Lord.
We outfitted our church/school with a playground "make-over" for less than $1500 in material costs and expenses. It would not have been possible without the dedicated hearts and the helping hands of parents, PAC members, church families and alumni!
Many thanks go out to you all!

May God Bless you each richly.

Soccer News!

The MCA Lions played against the Mount Royal Academy and it was a great match! Both teams were evenly matched and fought from start to finish. The first half ended with a 0-0 tie. Late in the second half, Micah Edelblut got MCA on the score board with a nice shot. Turns out, that was the winning goal, the Lions defense were able to shut the Mount Royal offense down and Jung Yeol kept every shot out of the net. Kudos to the whole defense for their outstanding play!

The Lions travel to TriCity Christian Academy on Monday and then to Candia to take on Holy Family. The tournament will be the following week at the MCAA Sports Complex.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser Is Here!

Hi Everyone!

It's cookie time again. This year we have cookie dough and healthy snacks to sell.   The sale begins today and ends October 23rd.   Your child should have received an order form today from his / her teacher.

What do you do?

Simply ask friends, family and neighbors if they would like to help you raise money for your school.  You can help them with an easy solution to baking this Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Each cookie dough box is $15 and the healthy snacks are $12.  The cookies come in a box of 48 and are already scooped.  All you need to do is place them on a cookie sheet and bake them. It's that easy.

Selling:

Your goal is 10 boxes of cookies or snacks.  When you sell 10 boxes of cookies only you will get a FREE box for yourself.  If you sell 20 boxes, you will get 2 FREE boxes and so on.

Take your order sheet with you. Make sure your name is in the top, left, gray box.  Each person that orders fills out a line on the order sheet. Make sure you get their phone number. You will need to deliver the cookies and snacks when they come in.

Collect cash, check or money order made out to MCA.  Please make sure you collect the money up front. Make checks payable to MCA.

Finished Selling:

Tally up the number of cookies and snacks ordered on the bottom.   Make sure all checks or money orders are made out to MCA.  Double check that you have collected all the money needed.  Bring in your order forms and money collected in an envelope with your name on it to your homeroom teacher no later than OCTOBER 23rd.

Delivery:

The cookies and snacks will arrive at least a week before Thanksgiving.  I will notify you as soon as I know the delivery date to the school.  You will need to pick up your cookies that day from the school and plan on delivering them as soon as possible.  They are delivered frozen in dry ice. The school does not have the room to store the cookies.

Thank you so much!

For those of you who like numbers:

If each family sells 10 boxes of cookie dough, 22 Families - profit of $1320.00
If each student sells 10 boxes of cookie dough - 43 students - $2580

The rain stopped and the sun was shining just in time for the Lions to take on the RSEC Academy today at the MCAA Sports Complex. RSEC came to play and their goalie was turning away every shot the Lions took. Finally, late in the first half, Saisha Durham found the back of the net to put the Lions up 1-0. The second half was all MCA, with Becca Peterson and Ryan Bourgeois adding to the score. The Lions won 3-0, but it was not an easy victory. Kirsten Weber, Jesse Durham and Micah Edelblut had a good game on defense for the Lions. The Lions have their last home game on Tuesday, against Jesse Remington Christian High School. Game time is 3:30 and the game will be played at the MCAA Sports Complex on North River Road.

(Raindate: Tuesday, October 13th.)

Please make sure that your child is here and dressed in MCA uniform! Elementary students may not come dressed in PE clothes that morning, they must come dressed in regular uniform! (Be sure that they bring their PE clothes, so that they can change after pictures).

The portrait order form can be found here and the directions for completing the order form can be found here. Additionally, these are posted on the MCA website under the "FORMS"' tab and I will also send a copy of each home with your youngest child.

Early Release on Oct. 14th - PSAT Testing Day

Wednesday, October 14th, is PSAT testing day for students in grades 9-11. There is still school for those not participating in the testing (yes, even the seniors). We will begin school at regular time but will release the ENTIRE SCHOOL (elementary included) at 12:20 PM that day.

The cost for testing is $15 for full-time students and $30 for part-time or home-schooled students. Please place your child's payment in an envelope clearly marked with "PSAT" and your child's full name and send it in no later than Friday, October 9. If your child will not be participating, please let us know that as well.

As always, please contact the office if you should have any questions.
