Last Call for Yearbook Orders

Anyone wishing to purchase a yearbook who has not done so yet needs to get their order in ASAP! There are a few order forms left in the office. No orders without accompanying payment in full will be accepted. Orders close on Friday.

SATs Reminder

Standford Achievement Tests will be administered tomorrow and Friday to grades 1 through 11. Please remember that it is absolutely essential to have your child arrive between 7:45 and 7:55 as testing begins promptly at 8:00 AM. If they are late, they will not be permitted to enter their classroom until the first portion of testing is done and there is no make up time. Please remember to have them bring sharpened #2 pencils, rulers, a snack, a book and, if in high school, a calculator. Dismissal is at 12:30 PM. We are accommodating quite a few homeschoolers during this time as well so pick up and drop off may take slightly longer than usual and is likely to be somewhat disorganized. We are sure that extra measures of patience and grace are going to be needed. Thank you!

Beginning next Wednesday, April 21st, interested students will travel to the Amherst Country Club / Ponemah Green for some golfing fun. Here's what's included for the fee of $60:
  • 6 buckets of balls (1 per player per day)
  • 4 rounds of mini golf (1 per day for the first 4 days)
  • 2 rounds of golf ( 9 holes for the last 2 days)

For the last 2 golfing days, if you child does not have their own clubs, there will be a small fee to rent clubs. Registration forms were handed out today to interested students or you can contact the office for one. Please note that checks need to be made payable to Ponemah Green, not MCA!

See you on the green!

Annual Leadership Conference for grades 7 - 12

Dear Parents and Students in the Upper School-

The annual leadership conference is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, May 3rd and 4th. Yes, that is the first two days that we would be returning from April vacation. The conference is once again in the Fall River area of Massachusetts.

We will be leaving from the school early Monday morning, and returning to the school on Tuesday afternoon. More details will follow soon!

The cost will be about $40 per person.
We will also need a field trip permission slip signed and returned to the office for each attending student.
The topic this year is "Brave-Hearted Gospel" featuring Eric and Leslie Ludy.

Our own MCA worship team will also be leading one of the general sessions in worship!

It is a great opportunity to continue to equip our young people and we recommend that all students attend the conference.

More information will follow soon. Please feel free to contact the office should you have any questions.

Stanford Achievement Testing Next Week

Stanford Achievement Tests (SATs) will be administered next Thursday and Friday, April 15th and 16th, to grades 1 through 11. Testing begins at 8:00 AM sharp so please have your child here by 7:50 AM. Students are dismissed at 12:30 PM both days.

If you child is not participating, please inform the office and keep your child home those two days as we do not have any alternative activities. We will need $15 per participating student in order to cover the cost of materials and scoring. Please have this in to the office no later than Wednesday, April 14th.

For each day of testing, your child will need a sharpened #2 pencil, a ruler, a snack, a book to read (in case they are one of the early ones done) and, for high schoolers, a calculator.

We administer this test to many home schoolers as well so the drop off and pick up routine will likely take a bit longer than usual and be somewhat disorganized. We will all need to remember to be even more graceful and courteous than usual.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the office.

Elementary Field Trip

Tuesday, April 20 the elementary students will be going to Harborside Healthcare Center on Crosby Street in Milford to recite the poems they are memorizing and visit with the residents there. We will leave school at 10:15 and return by 11:30. No permission slip is needed.
If you can drive for this trip, please email Mrs. Hallowell (dalesueh@myfairpoint.net) and let her know how many students you can take.
Thank you.

The Annual MCA Crosswalk!

Dear MCA Family-

We are doing the Crosswalk, this Good Friday April 2nd!

Students in grades 1 and 2 will not be participating. These students may be dropped off as usual. They will be with Mrs Hallowell. If you, as a parent, would like to participate in the Crosswalk and would like to take your 1st or 2nd grader with you, then that is perfectly fine!

Students in grades 3 through 12 will be participating.
For those participating in the Crosswalk:
Plan to be in front of The County Store any time between 7:50am and 8am. We will be leaving promptly.
Please wear your uniform and comfortable shoes. Bring or wear a jacket.
We will be stopping at the Milford Oval to do a couple of worship songs and prayer, and then we will continue on to MCA.

The elementary students will be having a quick snack in the lunchroom upon arriving to the school. The snack will be provided by the teachers.

The upper school will be having a quick snack as well in the Foyer area upstairs. All upper school students are encouraged to bring in a food item to share with the entire upper school. Food items can be breakfast or lunch related and low sugar/caffeine drinks are also welcome. All food items can be dropped off at the school prior to going to the County Stores. There will be someone in the office to collect your items.

Please remember that this is a day to celebrate Christ! We ask you to have a spirit of reverence during the Crosswalk. Upon returning to the school, we ask you to engage with those around you and to avoid isolation. This is an opportunity to shine for the Lord and to do His will!

Praise God!

Fairwood Chapel
18 Fairwood Drive
Dublin, NH

The family invites all of you who were faithful prayer warriors for Isaiah and who loved him without seeing him.
If you would like to send gifts or flowers, the family kindly asks for potted plants or perennials, as the family intends to plant a garden where the sand box was going to be built.

If you would like the address of the family, then please contact the office or ask Mrs. Longval.

May we celebrate the 10 days that Isaiah's family had with him. Baby Isaiah is now home with his Lord and Savior without pain, without tears and without knowing the sin of the world.

God is Good.

H 2 Oh oh oh

MCA was blessed last year with a water cooler from which the students and staff can get fresh spring water. It is really great to have cool, fresh-tasting water! We have some refillable 5-gallon water jugs and are looking for a volunteer who would be willing to periodically take these to the Monadnock Water Self-Serve area and fill them up (we'll provide the money needed for this). Please know ahead of time that these are heavy when full! Of course, this would count as volunteer time. Please contact Robin in the office if you are willing to serve in this way.

Thanks!

Sledding for grades 7 - 12 !!

Dear Parents of Students in grades 7 - 12:

As many of you may know, we are taking time out each afternoon this week for a spiritual focus. We have enjoyed the Christian movie "The Climb" and have had some great discussions in the spirit of doing hard things. We have broken into teams and built bridges in the spirit of team work. YWAM is with us today, Thursday, to perform, lead us in worship and share their mission. We had originally planned to go to Pastor Williams house tomorrow, Friday, to enjoy the snow and assist where we could with his church's project. However, due to circumstances beyond any one's control, we will not be able to spend the afternoon at the Williams' home, here in Milford only a couple miles from the school.

Therefore, we are planning to take the students to the sledding hill "Carnival Hill" in Wilton. I believe this is covered on the general permission slip form you each signed at the beginning of the year, as we consider Wilton to be part of the Milford surrounding area. However, I did want to let you all know of our plans.

Please allow your 7th - 12th grader to come to school in dress down clothes tomorrow, Friday February 19th. I would ask that the clothes be appropriate for outdoor play. Be prepared to bring outdoor wear as well and any snow toys that you feel are appropriate. Hats, mittens and boots are a must. We will be leaving MCA near noon, and we will be returning in time for afternoon carpool.

If you do not want your child participating, then please be prepared to pick your child up at 11:30 am, tomorrow Friday Feb. 19, 2010.

Be blessed and have a great winter break.

Be blessed.

Girls Basketball

The MCA girls basketball team traveled up to Manchester to take on the Holy Family Academy. Things got off on the wrong foot for the Lions when on the first play of the game, the girls lost starting center, Becca Peterson, to an ankle injury. Later in the game, Michaela Reichl, who was already playing on a tender ankle, took a shot to the ribs and had to finish the game on the bench with Becca. It was a tough battle under the boards and both teams fought a good fight, but someone had to win and unfortunately it was the Holy Family Academy by a score of 12-10. Michaela Reichl lead the scoring for the Lions with 4, followed by Kaitlyn Hartling and Jinnea Herber each with 3 points. Rachel Bourgeois had a good game off the bench, playing aggressive at both ends of the court. The girls have practice on Monday and we'll discuss the rest of the season then.

Thank You from Mrs. Widner

Hello MCA family -- teachers, staff, parents and students!

Our formal thank you cards are currently on their way to us via snail mail and will be sent out soon, but I wanted to send an informal "thank you" for coming to our baby shower yesterday. We can not thank you enough for all of the wonderful gifts. But, more importantly.... it was such a blessing to us to have you all there, supporting us and loving us as we prepare for the arrival of our daughter, Payton Grace. For those of you who were unable to make it, please know that we are so very thankful for the support, love, encouragment and advice that you have given us through passing in the hallways here at MCA.

With one more week left, this is truly a bitter-sweet time. Sweet as we attempt to prepare for one of the most exciting and blessed times in our lives Praise God that He has provided me with the opportunity to stay home and raise our daughter (and future children). While I know that this is not "good-bye", it is still a bitter time, as I prepare to leave the students that God has given me such great love and responsibility for. I wanted to take a moment to let you know that each of you and each of your children have made such a positive impact on my life and developing teaching career.

MCA, all of its teachers, staff, families and students all hold a very special place in my heart, and I am so thankful that God brought me here to be part of this family. I have grown so much since coming here -- spiritually, professionally and personally, and all of you have certainly contributed to that growth. The Widner FAMILY (ooh, I like the sound of that!!) certainly plans to stay plugged in here at MCA, hopefully through participating in yearbook, teaching occassional chapels, attending special events, and any other way that God plans to use us here.. We look forward to seeing all of MCA's children and families continue to grow and especially look forward to seeing God's plan for each unfold.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all you have done for us and for accepting us into this very special family! May God bless the road ahead and all that He has in store for you!

Girls Basketball News!

The MCA Lady Lions went on a road trip down to Buzzards Bay for the 10th annual Kingdom Covenant Tournament. It was a long drive, but it was a lot of fun. The girls played there first game against the Berean Christian Academy and the MCA girls controlled the game from start to finish. Becca Peterson lead the scoring with 12 points, followed by Michaela Reichl with 6, Kaitlyn Hartling with 4 and Katherine Reichl with 2.

After a dinner break, the girls went up a well rested Jesse Remington team and from opening tip off to the final buzzer, the Jesse girls controlled the whole game, the Lions never really got into their game and lost 9-32. Michaela Reichl lead the scoring for MCA with 5 points, followed by Rachel Bourgeois with 2 and Kirsten Weber with 1. Friday morning the girls went head to head with the host school and although the girls played a much better game compared to the game before, they came up short against a an always tough TNT team. The Lions lost 2-29, but played a tough game. Becca Peterson lead the scoring with 6 points, followed by Katherine Reichl with 2 and Kirsten Weber with 1. The Lions got a lot of help from Becca Peterson, Kaitlyn Hartling and both Michaela and Katherine Reichl under the boards. Eun Be Ro and Rachel Bourgeois worked had at both ends of the court, as did Ashlee Crooker.

This is always the highlight of the season and I'm already looking forward to
next year's tournament!

Girls Basketball

The MCA girls basketball team hosted a tough team from Nashua Christian Academy at the Milford Middle School. NCA is a physical team and it took a few quarters for the Lions to get their offense going. The Lions defense was strong and they kept NCA to only 20 points for the whole game. Becca Peterson and Michaela Reichl pulled in several defensive rebounds and everyone played a tight zone. Kirsten Weber got the scoring going with a foul shot in the first quarter and finished with three points. She was followed in the scoring by Becca Peterson with 3, Michaela Reichl and Jinnea Herbert each with 2 points. The Lions lost a tough battle 10-20. The MCA girls basketball team traveled to Manchester and battled with a very tough Saint Maries team. The Lions defense was top notch tonight and the girls really frustrated the Ste. Maries girls. Unfortunately, Saint Maries got all the scoring breaks, while the MCA girls threw up more shots, but just couldn't get them to fall through the hoop. The final score was Saint Maries on top 0-17. The Lions all played a great game on defense, especially Kaitlyn Hartling, Michaela Reichl, and Rachel Bourgeois. The girls next game will be Thursday, against Saint Maries, this time at the Milford Middle School. Game time is 3:15!
