Sledding for grades 7 - 12 !!
Dear Parents of Students in grades 7 - 12:
As many of you may know, we are taking time out each afternoon this week for a spiritual focus. We have enjoyed the Christian movie "The Climb" and have had some great discussions in the spirit of doing hard things. We have broken into teams and built bridges in the spirit of team work. YWAM is with us today, Thursday, to perform, lead us in worship and share their mission. We had originally planned to go to Pastor Williams house tomorrow, Friday, to enjoy the snow and assist where we could with his church's project. However, due to circumstances beyond any one's control, we will not be able to spend the afternoon at the Williams' home, here in Milford only a couple miles from the school.
Therefore, we are planning to take the students to the sledding hill "Carnival Hill" in Wilton. I believe this is covered on the general permission slip form you each signed at the beginning of the year, as we consider Wilton to be part of the Milford surrounding area. However, I did want to let you all know of our plans.
Please allow your 7th - 12th grader to come to school in dress down clothes tomorrow, Friday February 19th. I would ask that the clothes be appropriate for outdoor play. Be prepared to bring outdoor wear as well and any snow toys that you feel are appropriate. Hats, mittens and boots are a must. We will be leaving MCA near noon, and we will be returning in time for afternoon carpool.
If you do not want your child participating, then please be prepared to pick your child up at 11:30 am, tomorrow Friday Feb. 19, 2010.
Be blessed and have a great winter break.

Girls Basketball
The MCA girls basketball team traveled up to Manchester to take on the Holy Family Academy. Things got off on the wrong foot for the Lions when on the first play of the game, the girls lost starting center, Becca Peterson, to an ankle injury. Later in the game, Michaela Reichl, who was already playing on a tender ankle, took a shot to the ribs and had to finish the game on the bench with Becca. It was a tough battle under the boards and both teams fought a good fight, but someone had to win and unfortunately it was the Holy Family Academy by a score of 12-10. Michaela Reichl lead the scoring for the Lions with 4, followed by Kaitlyn Hartling and Jinnea Herber each with 3 points. Rachel Bourgeois had a good game off the bench, playing aggressive at both ends of the court. The girls have practice on Monday and we'll discuss the rest of the season then.

Thank You from Mrs. Widner
Hello MCA family -- teachers, staff, parents and students!
Our formal thank you cards are currently on their way to us via snail mail and will be sent out soon, but I wanted to send an informal "thank you" for coming to our baby shower yesterday. We can not thank you enough for all of the wonderful gifts. But, more importantly.... it was such a blessing to us to have you all there, supporting us and loving us as we prepare for the arrival of our daughter, Payton Grace. For those of you who were unable to make it, please know that we are so very thankful for the support, love, encouragment and advice that you have given us through passing in the hallways here at MCA.
With one more week left, this is truly a bitter-sweet time. Sweet as we attempt to prepare for one of the most exciting and blessed times in our lives Praise God that He has provided me with the opportunity to stay home and raise our daughter (and future children). While I know that this is not "good-bye", it is still a bitter time, as I prepare to leave the students that God has given me such great love and responsibility for. I wanted to take a moment to let you know that each of you and each of your children have made such a positive impact on my life and developing teaching career.
MCA, all of its teachers, staff, families and students all hold a very special place in my heart, and I am so thankful that God brought me here to be part of this family. I have grown so much since coming here -- spiritually, professionally and personally, and all of you have certainly contributed to that growth. The Widner FAMILY (ooh, I like the sound of that!!) certainly plans to stay plugged in here at MCA, hopefully through participating in yearbook, teaching occassional chapels, attending special events, and any other way that God plans to use us here.. We look forward to seeing all of MCA's children and families continue to grow and especially look forward to seeing God's plan for each unfold.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all you have done for us and for accepting us into this very special family! May God bless the road ahead and all that He has in store for you!

Girls Basketball News!
The MCA Lady Lions went on a road trip down to Buzzards Bay for the 10th annual Kingdom Covenant Tournament. It was a long drive, but it was a lot of fun. The girls played there first game against the Berean Christian Academy and the MCA girls controlled the game from start to finish. Becca Peterson lead the scoring with 12 points, followed by Michaela Reichl with 6, Kaitlyn Hartling with 4 and Katherine Reichl with 2.
After a dinner break, the girls went up a well rested Jesse Remington team and from opening tip off to the final buzzer, the Jesse girls controlled the whole game, the Lions never really got into their game and lost 9-32. Michaela Reichl lead the scoring for MCA with 5 points, followed by Rachel Bourgeois with 2 and Kirsten Weber with 1. Friday morning the girls went head to head with the host school and although the girls played a much better game compared to the game before, they came up short against a an always tough TNT team. The Lions lost 2-29, but played a tough game. Becca Peterson lead the scoring with 6 points, followed by Katherine Reichl with 2 and Kirsten Weber with 1. The Lions got a lot of help from Becca Peterson, Kaitlyn Hartling and both Michaela and Katherine Reichl under the boards. Eun Be Ro and Rachel Bourgeois worked had at both ends of the court, as did Ashlee Crooker.
This is always the highlight of the season and I'm already looking forward to
next year's tournament!

This is an in-house field trip for the entire school where the students will be able to touch a mix of original and reproduction 18th century artifacts and even wear the uniforms of George Washington's Army. The students will be immersed in the life ways of the Continental Soldier and hopefully come away with a fuller understanding of what it took to win the freedoms of our young nation. There is an $8 per student charge to cover the cost of this in-house field trip. Please have all monies in to the school no later than Tuesday, February 9. Parents who are interested are welcome to attend (at no additional charge).
